Practical Dialogue

Practical Dialogue was a collaborative project that I led during my time as Artist in Residence at Leicester Print Workshop. The project centred around two-way dialogues as three printmakers worked in partnership with three artists from different disciplines. The aim was not only to bring about conversation between the artists but also to produce a collection of work informed by print. This work toured as an exhibition and fed into the education programme at Leicester Print Workshop.

I was joined by the printmakers, Serena Smith, Peter Clayton. Each of us identified an artist to work with: Gino Ballantyne (painter), Richard Devereux (painter) and Gordon Millar (photographer) respectively. The collaborations acted as a catalyst for moving personal practices forward and the work produced was part of a dialogic continuum. The printmaking process offered explicit, innate opportunities for discussion and exchange. Each collaboration operated in a unique way and resulted in diverse outcomes.

The artists created at least two collaborative pieces alongside individual works and I produced six images responding directly to my conversations with Gino Ballantyne.
